  3. It may not be Chirstmas, but it is winter related! (snow!).

I'm guessing Sledgehammer Opossum was inspired by Tex Avery's Screwy Squirrel?

  4. Screwball characters go all the way back to silent screen comedians of the teens and twenties, like this Bobby Dunn comedy from the 20's:

Here's Paul Parrot in another 20's short:

Basically Sledgehammer O'Possum is a combination of these silent film comedians, Woody Woodpecker, Screwy Squirrel and Heckle and Jeckle all rolled into one. Sort of my tribute to them.

  5. And I always wondered, How did you get a hold of Avery's George and Junior and were any other characters up for grabs in Cartoon Network's early days?

  6. Jonathan, Ted Turner owned the MGM cartoons and characters and Hanna-Barbera studios, so any of the characters he owned copyrights to could have been used in animated cartoons.
Since George and Junior were Turner properties and I was working development at hanna-Barbera at the time, there was no problem. It was my suggestion to use them in new cartoons for the WHAT A CARTOON series. This was about a year before production even started. I was the first creator/director personally hired by Fred Seibert just to come up with new cartoon ideas.
